Like any other service, between north of Johnstown and south of Malone, about 160 miles, there are no large or chain motels and commercialized resorts. The Adirondacks specializes in cozy, simple inns, rustic but comfortable resorts in the great camp tradition. There are many bed and breakfast guest houses located in wilderness areas, where you stay near the owners, you can't get more personal than that.
